A onda me slomila…
Srce mi je rasula na sto komadića. Iako sam donekle naslućivala u kojem smjeru ide, svejedno mi je oduzela dah.
Ova knjiga me zaustavila i natjerala da shvatim koliko život nije crno bijel. Sa svakom sam stranicom sve više osuđivala Beth. Nju sam gotovo mrzila, dok sam Franka obožavala.

Broken Country – Clare Leslie Hall
“This is a love story with too many beginnings. I refuse to think about how it is going to end.”
Although it was published over a year ago, I immediately noticed how much of a stir it had caused in the book community. However I’ve only read it a few days ago. For some reason, it reminded me of Where the Crawdads Sing, which I adore, and it completely lived up to all my expectations.
The plot follows three time periods, childhood, 1968, and 1969, which makes the tension present from the first page. I love this type of story. When a book is well written, it is simply impossible to stop reading, and this one is exactly that. I flew through the pages and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. I wanted to find out everything as soon as possible, and at the same time, I didn’t want it to end.
And then it broke me…
It shattered my heart into a hundred pieces. Even though I had some inkling of where it was going, it still took my breath away.
This book stopped me in my tracks and made me realize how life is not black and white. With each page I judged Beth more and more. I almost hated her, while I adored Frank. And then at one point I realized that I had no right to. As a reader I didn’t know what to do with all the emotions this story stirred in me, so how was she supposed to know. She did what she felt she had to do at that moment, what she could do, what she needed to do.
I may or may not agree with her, but I think at the end of the day I have no right to judge her. None of us have the right to judge the way someone deals with their pain…
Fantastic story. An emotional bombshell that I’m still recovering from.
