Razvlačila sam i sebe i nju, i iskreno, ostavila me prilično ravnodušnom.
When she was seventeen, Alice dreamed of the perfect summer spent with three smiling teenagers in a yellow speedboat. Now, as an adult, she returns to the lake to spend the summer with her grandmother, who is recovering from hip surgery. But this time, she is not just looking for a break. She is searching for something missing from her life, a sense of purpose, a happier version of herself, and perhaps answers to questions she has carried for a long time…
This book was released back in May 2025, and I first read it in November. I dragged my way through it, and honestly, it left me feeling pretty indifferent. I was genuinely disappointed because I had been so excited to return to Barry’s Bay.
This summer the Croatian edition was published, and I decided to give it another chance. Since I am still in the mood for summer stories, I dove back into its pages. This time, it took me only three days.
Everything that hadn’t worked for me during my first read felt perfect the second time around. The chemistry between the main characters, their witty banter, the atmosphere of the lake, the cabin, and the forest… and, of course, Charlie. ️ This time, I completely lost myself in Barry’s Bay, and every day I couldn’t wait to return. Everything simply fell into place. Maybe it was all about timing. The first time, it just wasn’t the right moment for this story.
If you’re not quite ready to say goodbye to summer yet, One Golden Summer might be the perfect way to hold on to it a little longer.
? Have you ever given a book a second chance and ended up loving it the second time around?
