Radnja nas vodi kroz više vremenskih razdoblja, zemalja, kultura i običaja, a cijela priča na mene ostavlja dojam jedne čarobne mračne mješavine Grimmovih bajki i slavenske mitologije.

The God of Endings – Jacqueline Holland

A magical book about Collette LeSange, a lonely artist who currently runs a French art nursery in upstate New York. Collette is hiding a big secret that has given her eternal life. In her 150 years of life, she encountered a lot of love, happiness, sadness and loss of loved ones. The plot takes us through several time periods, countries, cultures and customs, and the whole story leaves the impression of a magical dark mixture of Grimm’s fairy tales and Slavic mythology.

From the very beginning it reminded me of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue – a strong female character, eternal life, great atmosphere and a handful of feelings – everything I loved about Addie I found here. But while in Addie the emphasis is also on the love story, here the author focused more on the themes of the meaning of life and its transience.

Holland writes very vividly and from the very beginning it was very difficult for me to stop reading. Although she did not manage to keep that level of attention throughout the entire novel, this is still a superbly written story that you will “feel” throughout the reading. It’s all in the atmosphere!

The God of Endings is a beautifully written dark fantasy novel that won me over from the very beginning.  Despite the small minuses related to the pace and tension in the second part of the novel, I would still highly recommend it because this is purely a matter of taste.
