Deset žena i deset muškaraca zatvoreno je u kompleksu usred pustinje. Natječu se za razne nagrade, a krajnji je cilj ostati posljednji u kući. Što je stvarno, a što lažno, na natjecateljima je da sami otkriju…
Kompleks je distopijski roman koji se često opisuje kao spoj Love Islanda (nisam gledala 😊) i Gospodara muha (jednog od meni najdražih klasika). Unatoč takvim usporedbama, očekivala sam lagano ljetno štivo, a dobila mnogo ozbiljniju priču.
Autorica donosi vrlo zanimljiv i, po meni, prilično realističan prikaz ljudskog ponašanja u trenucima oskudice, gladovanja i borbe za opstanak. Kroz različite situacije pokazuje koliko su neki ljudi spremni žrtvovati za malo slave, ruž za usne, novi par sunčanih naočala ili tek nešto hrane i odjeće.
Ja sam Kompleks doživjela kao svojevrsnu kritiku društva, konzumerizma, reality programa i društvenih mreža. Možda sam očekivala nešto dublju analizu tih tema, ali roman je svakako zanimljiv i potiče na razmišljanje, osobito o vrijednostima koje danas često uzimamo zdravo za gotovo.

The Compound is a dystopian novel often described as a blend of reality show Love Island (which I haven’t watched 😊) and Lord of the Flies (one of my all time favourite classics). Despite those comparisons, I expected a light summer read, but what I got was a much more serious story.
The author delivers a very compelling and, in my opinion, remarkably realistic portrayal of human behaviour in times of scarcity, hunger, and the struggle for survival. Through various situations, she shows just how much some people are willing to sacrifice for a little fame, a lipstick, a new pair of sunglasses, or simply some food and clothing.
I saw The Compound as a kind of critique of modern society, consumerism, reality television, and social media. Perhaps I was expecting a deeper exploration of these themes, but the novel is certainly engaging and thought provoking, especially when it comes to the values we so often take for granted today.
