Iako sam uživala u cijeloj zbirci, prvi dio me nije toliko zainteresirao kao druga dva dijela.

Volite li Atwood nikako nemojte propustiti ovu zbirku.

Old Babes in the Wood: Stories

Old Babes in the Wood is one of the titles I was very excited to read. I adore the form of short stories, and when they are written by one of my favourite authors, then the excitement is justified.

Margaret Atwood’s latest book is a collection of fifteen stories in which all Margaret Atwood fans will find something for themselves. Dedicated to her late husband, the stories are odes to marriage, mortality, the passage of time and love. The author also referred to the recent pandemic, which she skilfully incorporated into her stories.

The stories are divided into three parts: Tig and Nell and Nell and Tig make up seven stories, with several completely different stories in between that range from the Ancient World to a post-apocalyptic Earth.

Although I enjoyed the entire collection, the first part did not engage me as much as the other two parts. I was delighted by the stories about the reincarnation of the snail (which I read several times and was more and more delighted each time) and about the mother who is actually a witch (totally crazy).

The third part of the collection, in which the author describes the life of Nell after the death of her husband Tig, particularly touched me on an emotional level. My impression is that this part, although fiction, is the most personal. The feelings she evoked in me with her text are still there. Even now I can feel the sadness and anxiety that Nell felt by keeping his shirts.

If you love Atwood, don’t miss this collection.
