Korespondentica je jedan od romana koje sam nestrpljivo iščekivala, a oduševljenje je bilo potpuno kada sam vidjela da stiže i na naše tržište. Očekivanja su bila velika, a Virginia Evans ih je u potpunosti ispunila.
Ovo je prekrasna, iskrena i duboko životna priča o Sybil, 70-godišnjakinji koja je cijeli život najlakše komunicirala putem pisama. Ona je žena i bivša žena, majka, baka, prijateljica, sestra i susjeda. Obožavateljica knjiga, tišine i mira koje u njima pronalazi. Posebna, duhovita i drugačija. Toliko stvarna da sam u više navrata pomislila kako čitam o stvarnim ljudima i događajima.
Sybil obožava pisma, to je jedini oblik komunikacije u kojem se u potpunosti osjeća svoja. Piše svima i o svemu, pa čak i velikoj Joan Didion. Kroz ta pisma upoznajemo Sybilinu prošlost i sadašnjost, njezine odnose, gubitke i odluke, sve ono što ju je oblikovalo u osobu kakva je danas.
Roman u pismima me dosad nikada nije razočarao. Taj ritam mi savršeno odgovara i uvijek stvara osjećaj posebne, intimne povezanosti s likovima.

A ako vam nakon Korespondentice treba još malo slične čitalačke čarolije, toplo preporučujem Ulicu Charing Cross 84, predivan roman prema kojem je snimljen i istoimeni film s Anne Bancroft (Helene) i Anthonyjem Hopkinsom (Frank).

The Correspondent is one of the novels I had been eagerly anticipating. Expectations were high, and Virginia Evans fulfilled them entirely.
This is a beautiful, sincere, and deeply life-affirming story about Sybil, a 70-year-old woman who has spent her whole life finding it easiest to communicate through letters. She is a woman and an ex-wife, a mother, grandmother, friend, sister, and neighbour. A lover of books, and of the silence and peace she finds within them. She is special, witty, and different, so real that on several occasions I felt as though I were reading about real people and real events.
Sybil adores letters, they are the only form of communication in which she truly feels like herself. She writes to everyone and about everything, even to the great Joan Didion. Through these letters, we come to know Sybil’s past and present, her relationships, losses, and life choices, everything that has shaped her into the person she is today.
An epistolary novel has never disappointed me so far. Its rhythm suits me perfectly and always creates a sense of a special, intimate connection with the characters.
