Letters from Father Christmas

J.R.R. Tolkien

From 1920 to 1943, Tolkien wrote letters to his children every year signing Father Christmas. From the shaky handwriting (which delighted me), to the gorgeous illustrations, fun characters, specially made postage stamps from the North Pole, to the snow that was sprinkled on the envelopes, Tolkien put as much effort into each letter as if he were creating a new book. Which is actually not far from the truth considering the world he created for his children.

The story is magical, and this edition is a real fairy tale! A treat for the eyes, brain, soul and heart. I enjoyed reading so much that I couldn’t take the smile off my face. I didn’t want to finish, so I went back every now and then to study the illustrations down to the smallest detail. I wanted this book for a long time and I am overjoyed that it met all my expectations. And this edition raised it to a level that hardly any book will ever reach.

They say January is the most depressing month, and I say it doesn’t have to be if you decide to treat yourself to this book.
