The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – Douglas Adams
When Arthur Dent woke up that morning he envisioned a completely different day ahead of him – a quiet day with morning coffee, lunch and some afternoon reading. He had no idea that he was only minutes away from the craziest trip of his life. On that trip, Arthur is accompanied by his friend Ford Prefect, who informed him that in a moment the Earth will disappear in a cloud of dust, Zaphod Beeblebrox, Trillian, Marvin and Veet Voojagig – fun and quirky characters.
Considering that The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was written in 1979 and that Douglas Adams, among other ideas, describes the Guide as an electronic book within a book, and we know that the Kindle was only released in 2007, I have to express my admiration for the author, his imagination and ideas.
British humor has always been my cup of tea, so it didn’t disappoint me this time either – at times I laughed out loud and enjoyed the writing style. At times I also couldn’t stop reading and I ignored all the Earthlings around me, but there were also moments when my attention wandered a little to another Galaxy and for that very reason I wasn’t completely enchanted by it. However, the idea of the whole story, the great characters and the messages it carries interested me enough to want more!
Despite the slight drop in interest around the middle, I highly recommend it and I’m looking forward to the other sequels, even though I made the biggest possible mistake and went to my vacation without them.
