Prorokova pjesma je knjiga će vas rastaviti na dijelove i slomiti vam srce više puta. Paul Lynch u romanu oslikava jezivu stvarnost: jačanje totalitarizma i izbijanje građanskog rata, smještajući radnju u Irsku. Fašizam i država koja se okreće protiv svojih “neposlušnih” građana. Zvuči poznato? Ne, to se događa tamo negdje, kod susjeda… ili možda ipak ne?
Ono što je navedeno kao fikcija i “distopija” toliko je sablasno realno da ćete, s obzirom na sva aktualna svjetska događanja, u jednom trenutku potpuno izgubiti osjećaj da čitate izmišljenu priču.
Mene je knjiga emotivno dotukla. Plakala sam već od dvadesete stranice, bila sam anksiozna, a atmosfera me jednostavno slomila. Sve što sam željela bilo je zagrliti svoga sina i nikada ga ne pustiti.
I dok ovo pišem, oči mi se pune suzama: zbog svih onih očeva odvedenih u nepoznato, majki koje čekaju povratak muževa i sinova, onih koje oplakuju izgubljene i sve one djece ostavljene same… A sve to zbog ideologija, politike, vjere ili bilo kojeg drugog nebitnog razloga. Odluke s kojima se majka u romanu susreće su zastrašujuće. Čitala sam i neprestano se pitala: Što bih ja učinila? I otprilike svakih deset stranica mijenjala bih mišljenje. I dalje ne znam, mislim da u takvim situacijama nema dobrih odluka… 😔
“…i razmišlja, koliko je ljudi tijekom koliko života svjedočilo kako im se rat obru-šava na dom, koliko ih je sve to promatralo iščekujući sudbinu, upuštajući se u tihe pregovore, prvo šapćući, onda preklinjući, jer um predviđa sve ishode osim sab-lasti kojoj se ne može pogledati u oči.”
Stil pisanja je apsolutno predivan. Ružna, teška priča ispričana je na čaroban način. Rečenice su takve da se želite zavući u njih, one se osjećaju i ostaju u vama kao malene, duboko upletene niti u srcu i umu.
Organizacija teksta je specifična, na početku možda malo teža za praćenje, ali jako me podsjetila na stil romana Manji smo boemi Eimear McBride. Knjiga je mračna i depresivna, pa si svakako pripremite neko laganije štivo za oporavak!
A kraj? Kraj nije bio onakav kakav sam ja priželjkivala i trebala, ali je u potpunosti u tonu s cijelim romanom i kao takav savršeno funkcionira.

Prophet song – Paul Lynch

Prophet Song is a book that will tear you apart and break your heart more than once. Paul Lynch depicts a chilling reality in the novel: the strengthening of totalitarianism and the outbreak of civil war, setting the story in Ireland. Fascism and a state that turns against its “disobedient” citizens. Sound familiar? No, it’s happening somewhere over there, to our neighbours but not us… or is it?
What is listed as fiction and “dystopia” is so eerily realistic that, given all the current world events, you will at one point completely lose the feeling that you are reading a fictional story.
The book hit me emotionally. I cried from the twentieth page, I was anxious, and the atmosphere simply broke me. All I wanted was to hug my son and never let him go.
And as I write this, my eyes fill with tears: for all those fathers taken into the unknown, for mothers waiting for the return of their husbands and sons, for those mourning the lost, and for all those children left alone… And all because of ideologies, politics, religion, or any other irrelevant reason. The decisions that the mother faces in the novel are terrifying. I read and kept asking myself: What would I do? And I would change my mind about it every ten pages. I still don’t know, I think there are no good decisions in such situations… 😔
The writing style is absolutely beautiful. An ugly, difficult story is told in a magical way. The sentences are such that you want to get lost in them, they make you feel and remain in you like small, deeply intertwined threads in your heart and mind.
The organization of the text is specific, at first maybe a little difficult to follow, but it reminded me a lot of the style of the novel The Lesser Bohemians by Eimear McBride. The book is dark and depressing, so be sure to prepare some lighter reading for recovery!
And the ending? The ending wasn’t what I wanted and needed, but it is completely in tune with the entire novel and as such works perfectly.
