“I figure we’re all dying with every day, he says. So we might as well do what we want, before it happens.”
Will i Rosie upoznaju se kao tinejdžeri—ona zamišljena i oprezna, on nepredvidiv i slobodan duh.
Što se tiče likova—Will me potpuno osvojio.

“I wish I’d done everything on earth with you, she says.”
Talking at Night – Claire Daverley
Will and Rosie meet as teenagers—she is thoughtful and cautious, he unpredictable and free spirited. Years separate them, but their hearts always somehow bring them back together, even though they both know they may never be what they could have been…
As soon as I saw that the novel was being compared to Sally Rooney’s style, I knew I wanted to read it. And I wasn’t disappointed. You can feel the similarity—intimacy, emotions, relationships that hurt and heal at the same time. Sally is still Sally, but if you like her style, Claire Daverley will win you over.
The author brilliantly portrays the dynamics between the characters, the sadness, the pain, and that quiet melancholy that lingers long after the last page. What I missed was the atmosphere of the place— it takes place in England, in Norfolk, but that small town remains somewhat invisible. I often wondered where all this was happening, and even googled it a few times because it all sounded like it was set somewhere in America.
As for the characters—Will completely won me over. Sensitive, empathetic, vulnerable… I wished him everything he wanted for himself. I don’t remember a male character moving me so much. Rosie, on the other hand, was one of the hardest characters for me to relate to—selfish, closed off, often frustrating.
I love novels with sad characters, with real life problems, the ones that make us feel like we’re growing up with them, that we’re part of their story. When we finish them, we’re left a little emotionally exhausted, melancholic… Yes, I’m weird, but sometimes being sad really suits me.
If you liked Normal People by Sally Rooney, don’t skip Talking at Night.
