“Sometimes I believe personalities are shaped more by damage than kindness. Kindness doesn’t sink as deep into your skin as the damage does. The damage stains your soul so bad, you can’t scrub it off. It stays there forever, and I feel like people can see all my damage just by looking at me.”
Beyah Grim nije imala lako djetinjstvo.

Heart Bones – Colleen Hoover
Beyah Grim did not have an easy childhood. Growing up with a drug and alcohol addicted mother, far from her father, who at the same time has no clue about the conditions in which Beyah is growing up, has had great consequences on her as a person. She is only two months away from starting a new life when life deals her another huge blow.
I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about this book because it is described as YA, for which I think I got too old, so my impressions of books of that genre are often not the best. However, CoHo managed to convince me that there are YA books that I will never be too old for. CoHo knows what she’s doing! I loved it and immediately put it on the shelf with my favorite titles.
Beyah is also one of my favorite female characters because of her simplicity and honesty – no complications, she says what she thinks and that’s why she absolutely won me over. I can’t stand it when the plot is complicated by unspoken thoughts and feelings. There are no “cheesy romance” moments in Heart Bones, and the setting is my ever-favorite beach. With the extremely well-handled themes of growing up with addicts and in poverty, searching for yourself and your place, dealing with traumas and trusting people again, I couldn’t tear myself away from this novel. I think the fact that I read it in one day says enough about how much CoHo delighted me this time.
And what is your favorite CoHo book?
