“I think songs gave me a window into a magical life,” I said. “Something bigger, or whatever, waiting out there. And I felt like the only way to get there was through the songs. Like the songs, if I listened hard enough, would show me how to get it right.”
Sally Rooney. Teme i stil su tu: ona melankolija koja vas obuzme dok čitate, tužni likovi, mladi ljudi sa svojim svakodnevnim problemima odrastanja, njihova ranjivost i traženje mjesta u svijetu odraslih. Dodajte tome još i atmosferu romana Sutra, i sutra, i sutra i dobit ćete savršeni spoj.
Pročitajte ovu knjigu ako volite glazbu, ako volite Sally Rooney, ako volite priče o mladim ljudima i njihovim odnosima.
Hvala izdavaču!
?Koja pjesma vama izaziva nostalgiju?

Deep Cuts – Holly Brickley
Percy Marks loves music, it is her world, her rhythm, her breath. She is not a talented musician, but music has woven its threads into every part of her life. In a student bar in Berkeley, she meets Joe Marrow, a young man who dreams of a great musical career. When Joe asks her for her opinion on one of his songs, an unbreakable bond is born between them that will accompany them throughout their lives…
After just a few pages, the book Deep Cuts reminded me of one of my favourite authors. Sally Rooney. The themes and style are there: that melancholy that overwhelms you while reading, sad characters, young people with their everyday problems of growing up, their vulnerability and searching for a place in the adult world. Add to that the atmosphere of the novel Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow and you have the perfect combination.
The story took me back to the 90s and early 2000s, to the days when I lived through song lyrics with all my heart, when I cried for “that boy who broke my heart” (there was no boy, but the song was fantastic 😊). The feeling of nostalgia is strong and beautiful. I don’t know all the songs Percy talks about, but it was interesting to read about them and listen to the playlist on Spotify at the same time. Try it, it’s a really special experience.
What I especially liked was the relationship between Percy Marks and Joe Marrow. These are the stories I enjoy the most, and in that part of the novel you will find Sally Rooney’s recognizable style. The characters are real, their emotions palpable, the relationships sometimes toxic, but sincere. You will feel everything as if you were part of that story, part of that time.
Read this book if you like music, if you like Sally Rooney type of stories, if you like stories about young people and their relationships.
