A kraj?

“So many of the bad things that happen in the world come from people pretending to be something they’re not.”

The Bee Sting – Paul Murray

Paul Murray tells the story of the Barnes family, in which each member of the family deals with financial problems and personal crises in their own way, while their stories are emotionally and dynamically intertwined.

The novel is told from multiple perspectives: we follow the stories of teenage daughter Cass, wife Imelda, husband Dickie and twelve-year-old son PJ. Each character is special and fascinating in their own way and gives us a different view of events.

Paul Murray’s The Bee Sting is a true Irish story, a family story, full of emotion and depth. Although some have called it a “page turner”, for me it was not, at least not until the very end when, due to the rapid change of POVs everything becomes much more dynamic and tense.

And the ending? Some people were very upset by it, but I liked it just the way it is because after such a difficult book, at least I had a little hope for a milder ending.

With books like this, I always feel like I’m leading another parallel life. When I read it, I feel like I’ve lived through every event with the characters, and I always need a period of recovery. Although parts left a slightly weaker impression on me due to the slower pace, I highly recommend it to all fans of good family stories.
